FRESNO MOSQUITO AND VECTOR CONTROL DISTRICT, Fresno

JANUARY 30, 1942 – District organized by the Fresno County Board of Supervisors. The original boundaries enclosed approximately 49 square miles and coincided with the boundaries of the Roeding, Bullard, Easterby, Calwa, and City of Fresno School Districts. MARCH 9, 2942 – first meeting of the Board of Trustees which was composed of: Dr. T.L.R. Burks, Mr. C.J. Appling, Mr. J.E. Rodman, Mr. W.B. Paris, and a Mr. Estes. The first order of business was to elect Dr. Burks as President, and Mr. Appling as Vice-President. Most of the meeting was concerned with how to finance the District. Tax money would not be available until September. During March and April, the Board met on several occasions and involved the schools and the Junior Chamber of Commerce in preparing and distributing educational materials on mosquito control, and the Boy Scouts doing door-to-door inspections for standing water.
