About

American Ambulance, Fresno

American Ambulance was founded in 1975 by four EMTs: Jim Kaufman, Larry Ward, John Hibben, and Daryl Pruitt. In 1976, American Ambulance acquired Fresno Ambulance and Mr. Hibben and Mr. Pruitt withdrew their interests. In 1984, American Ambulance entered into a joint venture with Jones Ambulance to form the County-wide EMS Group. This organization earned a 2½ year contract with Fresno County to be the primary EMS provider for the Fresno/Clovis area. Later that same year, American acquired Jones Ambulance. American was awarded a five-year exclusive contract as the sole private EMS provider for the County of Fresno effective January 1, 1987. This contract incorporated two one-year extensions and one three-year extension, through December 31, 1996. American was then awarded a five-year contract with the potential for two-three year extensions that began January 1, 1997.
